Greetings everyone, Hare Krishna, this will be my first article on the site.

I wanted to put up my little understanding of Jyotish, as a subject in front of you all,

Some of you might know about the four pillars, i.e, Vedas of Hindu Sanatan Dharm, namely-
      Rigveda, Samaveda, Yajurveda, Atharvaveda.
The Vedic Astrology, also known as Jyotish comes from the Atharvaveda. It is actually the indirect impact of 9 planets, 27 Nakshatras and 12 Zoidacs in your life.
Let’s break it down to very simple terms, when you were born, whatever date and time, your birth chart is the exact snapshot of space at that very time. So, the Rishi-Munis (Saints of India) made a system to calculate and predict on the basis of planetary positions.
They first divided space into 12 parts, assigned each part to a zodiac sign. Zodiac Signs are basically star constellations as shown in the following image.

Then it is further bifurcated into Nakshatras. And if you do a little math, 360°. divided into 12 parts will give 30° each, i.e, each Zodiac has a field of 30° where the Nakshatras lie (approx). Now wherever the Moon was among these 12 zodiac sign, is your Moon Sign. Similarly, wherever the Sun was in these 12 Zodiacs, is your Sun Sign and likewise all 9 planets – Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu are seen in your chart. (Note- Earth is taken as the reference point as depicted in the image). Rahu-Ketu are basically lunar nodes of Moon, not real planets.

We will not go into much details, but I just wanted to show that there is definitely some merit to this science of planets & stars, and I very carefully wrote the word Science.

      Thank You Deepanshu Sir,
      Thanking all the patient readers.
