He who remains fasting on Ekadashi removes all sins. The merit earned surpasses all holy pilgrimages and is most auspicious.
Neither Vedic chanting, charity, penance, nor pilgrimage gives as much merit as the complete observance of Ekadashi, which grants access to the feet of Lord Vishnu.
Everyone knows ekadashi fasting is reducing curses but make sure we dont sleep in fasting in day time specially.
one story is below which help you to know its important
Maharaj Yudhishthira humbly asked Lord Krishna,
“O Lord! You graciously described the greatness of the Safala Ekadashi — thank you for your immense kindness. Now, kindly tell me the name of the Ekadashi that falls in the Shukla Paksha of Pausha month, what is the proper method (vidhi) to observe it, and which deity is worshipped on this day?”
The Supreme Lord, Bhaktavatsala Shri Krishna, replied with compassion:
“O King! This divine Ekadashi is known as Putrada Ekadashi. On this sacred day, one should worship Lord Narayana. Among all the vows and observances in the entire creation — moving and non-moving — none equals the merit of Putrada Ekadashi. By observing it, a person becomes blessed with children, prosperity, and dharmic discipline.”
“One who bathes and worships Lord Madhusudana on Ekadashi attains the merits of all charity and yajnas.”
Shri Krishna continued, “O King, let me narrate a tale that reveals the great power of this fast.”
In a beautiful city named Bhadravati, ruled a righteous king named Suketuman. However, he and his queen Shaibya were deeply sorrowful — they had no son. The queen was constantly anxious. Even the king’s father, anticipating that there would be no one to perform his shraddha, used to cry while offering pind daan. The king too often pondered: “Who will perform my last rites when I die? How will I repay my debts to my ancestors and the devas?”
“A house without a son remains ever in darkness; a son is like a divine lamp that lights both this world and the next.”
It is said that one who sees the face of his own child is truly blessed — he gains fame in this world and peace in the next. Sons, wealth, and joy in this life come as results of virtuous karmas from previous births. Burdened by this, King Suketuman remained restless.
At one point, out of despair, the king considered ending his life, but refrained knowing that suicide is a great sin. One day, lost in thought, he rode deep into the forest. There, he witnessed the harmony of nature — birds, animals, and trees. Deer, peacocks, lions, elephants, monkeys, snakes, jackals, and owls roamed freely. The scene invoked even deeper contemplation in him.
Though he had performed many yajnas and given charity, he wondered why he still felt such emptiness.
Parched with thirst, the king wandered until he found a beautiful lake adorned with lotuses and swans, surrounded by the peaceful hermitages of sages. Near the lake, he saw divine sages from Vishwadev Loka bathing and chanting mantras.
Folding his hands, the king bowed and sat humbly. The sages noticed him and said,
“O King! We are pleased with you. Tell us what you seek.”
The king asked, “O Maharishis! Who are you, and what brings you to this forest?”
They replied, “O noble one! Today is Putrada Ekadashi, and we have come here from Vishwadev Lok to bathe in this sacred lake.”
Hearing this, the king fell at their feet and said, “O revered sages, I am childless. If you are pleased with me, please bless me with a son.”
The sages smiled and said, “O King! Observe the Putrada Ekadashi vrat today with full devotion. By Lord Narayana’s grace, you will surely beget a worthy son.”
“By observing the Ekadashi fast, the blessing of a son is certain. Through Narayana’s grace, nothing is impossible.”
The king immediately began the Ekadashi vrat that very day and broke it the next morning on Dwadashi, following all proper rituals. Bowing again to the sages, he returned to his palace. Soon, Queen Shaibya conceived, and after nine months, she gave birth to a valiant and noble son, who later became a brave, wise, and famous ruler.
Concluding the story, Lord Krishna said:
“O King! Whoever desires a son should observe Putrada Ekadashi. Anyone who even listens to the greatness of this Ekadashi with faith and devotion is blessed with happiness and entry into the higher realms.”
“Merely by hearing or singing the glories of this sacred vow, one attains the fruit of the Putrada Ekadashi — revered even among the noblest fasts.”
